Largest North America Photovoltaic System Planned for New Jersey Meadowlands
The New Jersey Meadowlands will have 20 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity by 2020, according to a recent announcement by the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC). At the outset, NJMC aims to install a 5 MW photovoltaic system, which would be the largest in North America.

Based on what you have seen and read about this project, how would you grade it? Use the stars below to indicate your assessment, five stars being the highest rating.
NJMC plans to harness space atop roofs, parking lots, and remediated landfills to accommodate the photovoltaic system, which will require approximately 30 acres of space. “We’re serious about becoming a global leader in renewable energy,” said NJMC’s executive director, Robert Ceberio. “The time to pursue these resources is now.”
The NJMC’s system of recovering methane from landfills already puts it in the energy generation business, with 10,000 homes provided with gas. NJMC’s plan calls for a renewable energy task force to examine solar, tidal, wind, and geothermal options to develop a strategy for making the Meadowlands a major producer of renewable energy.
