McDonald's Achieves LEED Gold
A McDonald’s restaurant in Savannah, Georgia, has achieved a Gold rating in the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED pilot rating system for Core and Shell (LEED-CS) development. Designed by Adams + Associates Architecture in Mooresville, North Carolina, and developed by Melaver, the first-ever LEED-certified McDonald’s features bike racks, porous paving, daylighting, and wood certified according to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards.
As a tenant in Melaver’s Abercorn Common, a project that earned a Silver rating under LEED-CS, McDonald’s chose to pursue an individual rating for its restaurant, changing its construction process to do so. Although tenants in the center are not required to pursue LEED certification, they are encouraged to adopt green practices and are pointed toward resources on indoor air quality, water conservation, and energy efficiency.
