Public Transit Gaining Ground

According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Americans took more than 10 billion trips on local public transportation in 2006, reaching the highest level since 1957. Ridership was up 3 percent between the end of 2005 and the end of 2006, and up 28 percent in the decade since 1996.
