Banner Bank Earns LEED Platinum, Then Goes to the Movies
Boise, Idaho’s Banner Bank building, which has received much attention for earning the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Platinum rating, is now taking a star turn in a documentary film about the design and certification process.

Based on what you have seen and read about this project, how would you grade it? Use the stars below to indicate your assessment, five stars being the highest rating.
Directed by local filmmaker—and Academy Award winner—Ben Shedd, the film, Green is the Color of Money, explains the research and discussions that led the design team to embrace high-performance strategies for the 11-story, 195,000-square-foot building, without adding additional cost to the developer-driven project. The bank’s sustainable strategies include the use of a brownfield site, as well as efficient building systems that reduce energy use by 50 percent and water use by 65 percent, both when compared to the baseline standards in LEED.
The building was designed by HDR Architecture, with Cornerstone Design, The Russell Corporation, KPFF Consulting Engineers, Musgrove Engineering, and developed by local Gary Christensen. A DVD of the film was given to all USGBC chapters nationwide as a gift from the Idaho chapter to use as a tool to convince skeptical clients and developers to embrace the green design movement.
