PermaFLOW P-Trap

PermaFLOW P-Trap

The PermaFLOW lavatory P-trap is made of transparent ABS plastic (it’s really see-through!) and synthetic rubber. It has a built-in mechanism that can be manually rotated to wipe away build-up—and even sitting still, the cleaning paddle creates turbulence in the draining water that helps prevent deposits from forming in the first place. If the lower trap does manage to get blocked, there’s an emergency bypass in the upper chamber. This device eliminates the need for chemical drain cleaners that degrade the environment, present a hazard to occupants, damage plumbing, and negatively impact septic systems. It comes with a 10-year warranty, and has been certified by IAPMO. PF WaterWorks; Houston, TX. Phone 281-573-8422, toll-free 877-265-9777; www.pfwaterworks.net

Zo-e-shield 7 Windows

Zo-e-shield 7 Windows

Weather Shield manufactures triple-glazed windows with advanced multiple-layer, low-emissivity coating, low-conductivity inert gas fill, and warm-edge spacers, all working together to achieve a 0.24 unit U-factor. Available in primed wood, aluminum-clad wood, and wood with baked-on poly paint exterior, these windows block 95% or more UV-A and UV-B rays, and offer good condensation resistance. They come in casement and direct-set windows only. Due to the weight of the glazing, this glass system isn’t available in double-hung style. Also, the inert gas-fill isn’t available in all states. Weather Shield also makes French doors with the Zo-e-shield 7 glass system. Weather Shield Manufacturing, Inc.; Medford, WI. Phone 715-748-2100, toll-free 800-222-2995; www.weathershield.com

EnergyPeak BIPV Roofing

EnergyPeak BIPV Roofing

EnergyPeak integrates thin-film PV laminates with standing seam metal roofing to create building-integrated, no-fuss roofs that generate electricity. In some states, the manufacturer claims, the return on investment is less than 10 years. The PV laminates are factory-applied, arriving at the building site ready for installation. The wiring is hidden in sheet-metal cable trays that are either under the ridge cap or at mid-roof. The system, which includes combiner boxes, AC and DC disconnects, an inverter, a transformer, and an optional data acquisition system, is available nationally through a variety of EnergyPeak providers comprised of standing-seam manufacturers. A 20-year warranty is provided. EnergyPeak; Moon Township, PA. Toll-free 888-216-9600; www.energypeak.com

Window Insulating Panels

Window Insulating Panels

Advanced Energy Panels from Windo-Therm stop air infiltration from around windows, and nearly triples the insulation performance of single-glazed windows—exceeding Energy Star thresholds, according to the company. Condensation is eliminated as well. The panels mount inside the building, on the front of the window molding or recessed between the window jambs. The system consists of an extruded aluminum frame (ranging in width from ¾-inch for smaller windows, to almost 1-½-inches to invisibly accommodate large historic windows without supporting grids); compressed foam weatherstripping; and two layers of clear polyolefin film separated by an airspace. The panels come either as a kit or completely assembled, and have a 10-year limited warranty. Windo-Therm; Hoosick Falls, NY. Phone 518-686-9581, toll-free 800-819-9463; www.windotherm.com

E-Z Hatch Attic Access Door

E-Z Hatch Attic Access Door

For new construction or retrofits, the E-Z Hatch is a highly insulated overhead attic access door system. It installs in minutes with a utility knife and a screwdriver, providing sealed, energy-efficient attic access. The gasketed, 22-inch-by-30-inch, single-piece unit has a wood frame, interior trim, and an R-42 door with a 10-inch EPS core that exceeds the new Energy Star thermal bypass requirements. The 12-inch-tall wood frame holds the insulation back from the opening—no more insulation “snowstorms” when the attic hatch is opened. Battic Door Energy Conservation Products; Mansfield, MA. Emercor Insulated Rim

Emercor Insulated Rim

Emercor, manufacturer of structural insulated panels (SIPs) for exterior walls, foundation and basement walls, and roofs, also offers insulated rimboards. These approximately 2.5-inch-thick, OSB-and-polyurethane-foam sandwiches insulate to R-14, improve the envelope around a floor’s perimeter (where double-digit air leakage can occur), create a Type 1 vapor barrier, and come in 8-foot lengths with widths ranging from 9.5 to 24 inches. According to the company, not only does this product eliminate the need to insulate and seal around every joist, it also installs 20 percent faster than standard rimboard.
