Light Shelves and Sunshades Industrial Louvers offers louvers and sunscreens to reduce heat gain, provide sightproofing and sound attenuation, minimize water infiltration, allow ventilation, and channel water away from buildings. The company’s extruded-aluminum, draining, or non-draining blades are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, fixed or adjustable— even a hurricane-approved version to withstand wind loads of up to 150 pounds per square foot. GreenSpec does not recommend the copper blades due to embodied energy and mining impacts, or the perfluoropolymer-based coating option. Everything else looks good. Collagen Interior Paint ECOtrend Collagen is a zero-VOC paint that uses collagen from egg shells discarded from bakeries as its binding agent. Unlike most zero-VOC paints, this paint also uses a zero-VOC colorant (by Degussa), and it’s certified by Greenguard Children and Schools for chemical content. Third-party testing showed that Ecotrend Collagen inherently inhibits bacteria and fungus on painted surfaces. The company claims that the vapor-permeable paint adheres and covers like a premium paint on drywall, plaster, wood, masonry, and metal when used with an interior latex primer. Available in flat, eggshell (go ahead and snicker, it’s OK), and semi-gloss. Eco-trend Corp.; Santa Clarita, CA. Toll-free 888-889-5925; www.naturalinteriorpaint.com |

Enviro-Temp Heat Recovery System The Enviro-Temp heat recovery system from Turbotec recycles waste heat from commercial air conditioning or refrigeration systems to make domestic hot water in applications like restaurants, hotels, and medical facilities. According to the company, the product is well suited for use with air-conditioning systems from 10 to 200 tons, and when matched with refrigeration systems in the 120,000 to 2,400,000 Btu/hour range, the typical return-on-investment is just one to three years. The vented double-wall heat exchangers are UL and CSA listed for safe use with R-410A refrigerant (600 psig); and they can also be installed with solar hot-water heating systems as a booster or supplement. PowerCost Electricity Monitor The PowerCost Monitor is an affordable, real-time, overall-electricity-use meter for residential or small commercial uses. A transmitting device clamps onto any standard electricity meter (they’re generally located outside), and data is sent wirelessly to a receiver indoors. The user can enter electricity rates (single-rate or peak/off-peak), and the unit will display real-time costs. Both the transmitter and receiver are battery-powered. Tens of thousands of utility customers in the U.S. and Canada have received PowerCost Monitors through programs to reduce electricity demand, with measured savings as great as 18 percent in Newfoundland and Labrador. Airforce Hand Dryer The Airforce is a touch-free, high-speed hand dryer that uses multiple air nozzles to blow and evaporate water off hands in about 12 seconds. These 1,100-watt units push fast-moving air—10,500 linear feet per minute—through eleven small openings with an operating sound level of 83 decibels. An infrared sensor (with a 30-second vandal-resistant shut off) triggers the unit. The compact, 7-pound Airforce hand dryer is just under 11 inches high by 9 inches wide, with a depth of 6.5 inches. It’s available with a chrome finish, or in a white antimicrobial paint. World Dryer also makes the Air Max, a heavier-duty machine for high-use or vandal-prone settings.
